Intense light, such as from a flashbulb or uncovered light bulb, can stimulate the retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye) to its maximum response. When this occurs, it takes awhile for the retina to "recover." For a short time you are not able to see well, or you may see spots or a dark afterimage.
Any but green, mostly red and blue are absorbed by chlorophyll.
You may be experiencing a 'ghost' image. Though it really isn't a ghost, it is just that your eyes are tired and you have stared at something for a while then looked away. Our eyes are always trying to adjust to color and intensity of light. For example, if you look at a bright, but safe, light source that is green for a short while, then close your eyes, you will see that image as red for a little while with your eyes closed.
the FAIRIES! the FAIRIES! > > > > >>>>> Yeah, maybe if you're tripping but in all seriousness, flashing lights or sparkleberries, or stars or whatever you want to call them, could be a sign of vitreous or retinal detachment. You should go see an ophthalmologist as soon as you can so they can monitor the situation. If it's vitreous, that means you are at risk for a retinal tear or detachment. When THAT happens, you will notice a "dark curtain" coming over your vision. Don't panic, I see this all the time @ the clinic I work for and it is treatable. You won't go blind as long as you get medical attention soon. Hope this helps!
Absorbed. Your red ink will look black. "Red" is a long wave-length color. "Blue" is a short one. What looks red in white light is a pigment that reflects red. It won't reflect blue, so it will look dark.

Yellow, light purple, or light blue, anything bright for the baby to look at! As they get older it helps them develope their eyes because they notice the difference of the colors!
If you don't need to be able to block out all light with your drapes, you should pick something in a light, gauzy fabric. The flowiness of the fabric will make them look bright by itself, and if you pick a light color like white, light blue, or yellow, it will brighten the room even more.
because the light is so bright it makes it look black
The moon does not generate light; it reflects the sun's light, but only a tiny fraction of light. So, as a reflective body, it's safe to look at a bright moon all you want.
