The Big Three refers to Ford, GM, and Chrysler (The Big Three Auto makers in North America). They have all come into financial trouble and are threatening job losses or even folding the companies completely if they do not receive a loan from the US and Canadian Gov.'s. It is later learned the Ford did not need the money, but would have taken the handout if the others got free money. Ford is not in financial trouble.
