Catholic AnswerThe word "psychiatry" is from the Latin meaning "study of the soul". The Church has been at that for a long time, however, the modern view of Psychiatry is way off from the Church's understanding, as they do not treat the soul, only the body, and, in most cases, end up doing more damage to the person, then not. That said, when psychiatry is treating an illness that has a physical cause, they are doing every thing that they are capable of.
