That depends upon what you mean by prolonging life. If it means using normal medical means to keep a person alive - eg: nutrition, water, medications, oxygen, etc., the Church not only approves it but demands it. If you mean keeping a body alive by machines and purely artificial and extraordinary means, while the Church does not outright forbid it, they do not encourage it since it does not truly prolong life as we know it and may interfere with a natural death. On the other hand, the Church forbids assisted suicide. God, alone, determines when a life should end.
The catholic view on unborn babies is that you should NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE commit an abortion. And the catholic view on the elderly is u should not, even if they are in pain, do euthanasia (deliberately ending someones life because they are in pain). God should be the only one to decide who lives and who dies
