Singapura is simply the Malay word for Singapore. They both mean "Lion City". It was said that Prince Sang Nila Utama came in sought for a land for him to build a kingdom. On his way, there was a storm and he had to throw his crown into the sea so as to make the storm subside.
He landed on Singapore and found it a good place for his kingdom. He saw a special animal that displayed a lot of courage and cool to him. He asked his assistant for the name. It was a lion. That is how the name supposedly came about.
