An insertion point is the flashing line which indicates where you will be typing. Therefore, the keys that would be pressed are the 'k' key, and the shift key.

One Excel interface item that is not displayed until you start typing in a cell goes by several names: insertion point, insertion point indicator, cursor, "that flashing vertical bar." Also when you start typing or editing a cell, beside the formula bar the x and tick will appear, allowing you to abandon or accept what you are doing in the cell.

It is where something will appear when you start typing or if you paste something. It is in effect the place where something will be inserted.
The blinking line that indicates where the text will appear when you start typing is called the insertion point (sometimes also known as the active cell).
It is the active cell, the one that is highlighted. This is indicated by a heavier border around it. Pressing F2 will activate Edit mode so that you can type in data to the cell. You will see the cursor flashing when this happens. You usually use the F2 when you want change something that is already in the cell. This is Edit mode. You can also just start typing when there is nothing in the cell already. This is Enter mode.
If you have inserted the system date into a document (as opposed to merely typing it in), selecting that option means every time the document is viewed or printed, the current date at that period will be displayed. If not selected, the date as of the time it was inserted will be displayed.
