Google has documented how to share data from Google Maps to Google Earth - see related link below.

Until recently Google Maps had an undocumented feature that by adding "&output=kml" to the Link as seen in Google Maps would generate KML to launch that view in Google Earth. However, that feature has been removed and you can't do that any more.

It's easy to switch from Google Earth to Google Maps - just check the "View in Google Maps" option found in the File menu of Google Earth.
