NOTE: The Hawaiian language is a phonetic language (almost like Spanish). Please keep this in mind when reading/pronouncing the italicized words. It is also important that each vowel in each italicized word be pronounced. Why? Because:

au (ah-oo) = I

ao (ah-oh) = Cloud

The Hawaiian term for "granddaughter" is mo'opuna wahine(mo-'oh-poo-nah va-hee-ne). For grandson, it's mo'opuna kāne(mo-'oh-poo-nah kaah-ne). The horizontal line above the "a" in kāne is called a kahakō, or macron, and means an elongation of the indicated letter. In kāne, it would be the letter "a". If you take away the kahakō, you get kane(kah-ne), which is Tinea (a fungus skin disease).
