What is the High School graduation rate for Utah?

According to Utahan school officials, Utah boasts a graduation rate of 90%. That means that if the average of all graduations rates across the entire spectra of high school graduates, 90 out of 100 high school students would walk across the stage and receive their diplomas.

When considering different races, the results are as follows:

Asians: 91%

African Americans: 81%

American Indians: 79%

Latino: 77%

Pacific Islanders: 88%

Whites: 92%

Students who speak English as their second language have a 68% graduation rate. Students who suffer from a disability have an 80% graduation rate.

Graduation rates for minority students are generally lower mainly because of two reasons. First, minority students tend are worse off in the socioeconomic ladder and have fewer resources in their pursuit of education. Schools with higher minority ratios tend to have fewer resources than schools with lower ratios of minorities. Secondly, minority cultures tend to have less emphasis on education. Asian graduation rates are higher than those of other minorities because Asian culture heavily emphasizes education in the upbringing of children. Black and Latino cultures unfortunately show less enthusiasm in their children's studies.

This does not mean that minority students are not capable of achieving the same level of academic success as other peer groups. The achievement gap is quickly narrowing and scores of minority students are now experiencing social mobility and pursue higher education. I am just explaining the apparent achievement gap shown in current statistics.
