I know of one that went bad at 170,000 miles. Honda charged $3500 for replacement. Inside it's just about $500 worth of (high quality?) rechargable D cells. They keep the old one! There's something about the older IMA/BCM controllers that lets the batteries overcharge, heat up for shorter than expected lives.
