The "bridal lehenga" or "bridal saree" is the name given to the traditional Indian wedding outfit. The bridal lehenga consists of a long skirt, blouse, and scarf that is draped gracefully over the shoulders. Beads, sequins, and embroidery take center stage in many of its designs. On the other hand, the bridal saree is a long piece of unstitched fabric that is wrapped around the bride's torso and has a pallu that drapes elegantly over one shoulder. The bridal lehenga and saree are iconic symbols of the cultural heritage and opulence of Indian weddings, and are renowned for their vivid colors, luxurious fabrics, and fine craftsmanship.

In southern India the men wear long, white sheets of cloth called dhoti in English and veshti in Tamil. Over the dhoti, men wear shirts, t-shirts, or anything else. Women wear a sari, a long sheet of colourful cloth with patterns. This is draped over a simple or fancy blouse. This is worn by young ladies and woman. Little girls wear a pavada. A pavada is a long skirt worn under a blouse. Both are often daily patterned. Bindi is part of the women's make-up. Indo-western clothing is the fusion of Western and Subcontinental fashion. The traditional Indian Wedding dress for a bride is called a lehenga. However, there is not one wedding dress. She can choose to wear a number of other dresses which include a frock, saree, A-line dress, short knee-length frocks, maxi, and gown.
The traditional Indian wedding dress for a groom is called a sherwani. It resembles the style of their national dress that is a shalwar kameez. But there is also a bigger and longer coat worn over it that is basically called a sherwani.
This is not compulsory for the couple to wear. They can make changes in their dress codes. Especially now, both the bride and groom prefer to have a modern, unique and trendy touch in wedding wear. Everyone wants to try something new and exciting that is not worn by anyone before. There is also a very interesting trend emerging these days snd that is to have lighter dresses. One that makes the person comfortable. Casual dressing is in fashion these days. This is why girls today choose dresses that are not too heavy followed by little jewelry and subtle makeup.
