Area target: Tripod - 1100 meters. That's by the book. In real life depends on a gunner and weather.
3,725 meters
800 for point targets, 1100 for area targets. Some sources list 1200 for area targets. I couldn't tell you which of the two effective ranges for area targets the Army taught, as the M60 was already phased out for the much better M240B by the time I was sent to my first line unit.
800 or 900 rounds.
No You don't Because it would make no difference.
9200 accurately
I carried an M4 in Afghanistan and Iraq. It suited me alright, as I was a Medic, so carrying an M249 or M240B would've just been cumbersome for me.
Each unlock is based on the kill points for the previous gun. You will have to keep advancing with your current weapon until you get to this one.
The M240B is an American variant of the Belgian FN-MAG machine gun. It is a belt-fed, gas operated, air cooled machine gun which fires the 7.62x51 NATO cartridge.
They could be assigned an M16A2, M16A4, M4, M249, M240B, they could be put on an M2... depends on rank, position within their platoon, etc.
Well the marines use the M240G and it's about 26 lbs(pounds) unloaded, the army uses the M240B and it's about 27 lbs, but if both weapons are fully loaded with rounds then it can be around 35 lbs. The army is currently testing out a newer and lighter M240L which is said to reduced the weight around 3-5 pounds and also the overall length.
It's possible, yes. At 27 lbs., it's not very feasible for any duration, but if, say, your platoon suddenly came under attack, it could be done in a pinch. Accuracy at range would be impeded, and the weight would prevent this from being done for long durations of time, but it can and has been done.
You're thinking of the M240B (or possibly the M240G used by the Marines, but not being phased out for the 240B), which is actually a variant of the Belgian FN MAG machine gun. As for nicknames, it's typically referred to as "pig", same as the M60 was, although it was simply a case of the M240 inheriting the nickname, rather than earning it for the reasons the M60 was christened with it.
