I wear a black poppy every Remembrance Day. I buy it from the British Legion and hand colour it. I wear it to oppose the notion of the 'Glorious Dead' and the idea of 'sacrifice', to remember all victims of war, and to protest against it as an insane obscenity -an extension of politics by other means, to remember the 'Inglorious Dead'. My father fought in the last world war, and he detested Remembrance Day and I think he thought it was grotesque. I suffered his nightmares, mood swings, anger and Alcoholism as a child, as he saw and did terrible things in the name of the nation.
