The modern Icelandic word is 'Norður-Ameríka' (Norðr-Ameríka in Old Norse, {from my knowledge}), but Norse was 'extinct' by the 14th century, and is claimed by many that America was first discovered by Columbus in ..1492s?.. That's late 15th century. HOWEVER.. an Icelandic born Norseman sailed to Mainland America in A.D. 1001, discovered and named the northern tip of the 'Newfoundland' island Vínland. Meaning Wine-land. So they might have called it Vínland??.. I dunno. Norðr-Ameríka.
