This depends on which region of the Earth you are in. If you are in a coniferous forest in the Northern Hemisphere, you would travel south to find a deciduous forest.
It's biome is a temperate coniferous forest.
There are different types of leaves that are found in southern Illinois which are defined by the trees in the region. The trees include bottom land forest, coniferous forest, deciduous forest and many more.
The coniferous regions are the ones where there is large numbers cone shaped trees. Basically, the coniferous region is mostly snowy one. The trees have an inverted cone shape, to prevent snow accumulation on them, which may freeze them to death. There is no such forest as the Vermilion forest. However, there is the Viridian Forest, which is located after Viridian City. There is also the Ilex forest, but it's located in the Johto Region. There is no forest near Vermilion city, either.
