A derived unit is one that involves the mathematical manipulation of two or more units for different entities. Examples using the SI units that pertain to Physics are as follows:

density = kg/m3

force = kg.m/s2 = 1 Newton

acceleration = m/s2

work = kg.m

momentum = kg.m/s
