CORRECTION: This word is correctly spelled ukuaji; g in Swahili never sounds like English j. A Swahili-speaker would understand the word but would not use it with the meaning "growth." The -ji affix refers to someone who repeatedly does something: mliaji (a crier or crybaby), mlalaji (one who sleeps a lot), mchekaji (one who is always laughing), mpigaji (one who constantly hits, a fighter).
