Hi! #85 is an 'immobilizer' code. Most likely triggered by a missing/wrong chip in a car key (spare key - with no chip?). The code reader in the steering column is anable to recognize the key.
You need to find a MB dealer, grab your driver's license, proof of ownership of your car, and the VIN. They will order a new key for you. Depending on where you live, it can take a week or two to get a new key. I believe they'll issue you a master key...but to be sure, ask the counter man. You should know that these keys can be expensive. I believe the '85's used a laser cut key...they cost.
i have 85 cavalier how you get key cycliner out
make sure it is COMPLETY in park. Sometimes it will not release the key unless it is totally "locked" down.
In my case it was because the original key has a microchip in it that the copied key does not. In order to get a key with a microchip in it, I have to go to the dealer and order one at the price of around $85.
It depends on the series, as indicated by the presence/absence of a letter after the date, and the condition of the bill. Some ranges: 1928 Gold seal $30-$85 in average condition $250+ uncirculated 1928A Green seal $30-$65 avg $125-$160 unc 1928B Green seal $20-$50 avg $75-$100 unc 1928C Green seal $65-$200 avg $1000 +/- unc
$85 ($87 with convenience fee if you pay online) and 2 points on your license.
Keys with the chip on them are around 85 dollars.
