You didn't say anything about the mint mark, so here's the range for conditions ranging from numismatic "Good", which actually means very worn, up to almost uncirculated.
With no mint mark (Philadelphia) - retail is 15c in G, up to about .50.
With a D mint mark (Denver) - 50c to .
With an S (San Francisco) - 50c to .

The front of a 1917 penny looks very similar to a present day penny. The reverse had shafts of wheat with ONE CENT and THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
