1899-O Liberty Silver Dollar: good condition-$11.00, mint condition-$180.00
If the coin has a mintmark, it's on the reverse above the letters DO in dollar. S= San Francisco, O= New Orleans, CC= Carson City and no mintmark = Philadelphia.
1879 would make it a Morgan dollar, so the mint mark is located on the reverse (tails) side, near the bottom, just above the letters "do" in the word "dollar." No mint mark means it's from Philadelphia, S is for San Francisco, O is New Orleans, and CC is Carson City.
The 1904-O Morgan dollar is the last and most common of the New Orleans Mint issued "Silver Dollars". Circulated examples are valued from $32.00-$39.00. Typical Mint State coins are $45.00-$60.00.
In 1879, one dollar had the same face value as it does today. However, due to inflation, the purchasing power of a dollar in 1879 was much higher than it is now. It is estimated that $1 in 1879 would be equivalent to around $27.12 in 2021.
It's not clear what you mean by "great", but in numismatic Very Fine condition (minor wear, but all details clear and sharp) an 1879-O dollar would retail for around $18.
Need a DATE to go with the "O" mintmark of the silver dollar. Post new question.
As of 4/12 a 1898 O Morgan silver dollar in MS-65 condition is worth $238.
7-17-11>>> Both Morgan dollar coins are common and circulated examples are $36.00-$44.00 but check the reverse, above the letters DO in DOLLAR for mintmarks, they can be "S", "O" or "CC". Any mintmark does change the value of the coins.
The 1884-o silver dollar is worth $20 to $35 circulated and up to $200 uncirculated. The prices are slowly going up every year.
1899-O Liberty Silver Dollar: good condition-$11.00, mint condition-$180.00
The mint mark would be located on the reverse of the coin, beneath the center of the wreath. In the case of the 1921 Morgan silver dollar, it wouldn't matter as the coins minted in Philadelphia (no mintmark), Denver ("D") and San Francisco ("S") all have similar values. In the case of the 1879 Morgan silver dollar, the Philadelphia, San Francisco and New Orleans ("O") minted coins have roughly similar values, but those minted in Carson City, Nevada ("CC") are worth markedly more.
ill buy it for a buck :O
The "Heraldic Eagle" reverse was first used in 1798. An authentic 1797 DB dollar should have the "Small Eagle" reverse.

The New Orleans Mint did not strike any dollar coins in 1848 only in 1846 for that decade.
