One of Australia's first domestic carriers was Trans-Australia Airways (TAA) which became Australian Airways in 1986. It was sold to and absorbed into QANTAS, Australia's international airline, in 1996. Prior to it being bought out by QANTAS, it was only ever known as "TAA" or "Australian".
