The umbrella thorn has adapted in many ways but in one way it has adapted for the greater good of all trees. The umbrella thorn acacia used to be a stupid little b*tch and anybody who wanted to could come up and eat it's pods. Then, it got fed up with being ate so it grew some mothaf*cking thorns. Now b*tches are leaving it alone and sh*t. The umbrella thorn is a bad*ss and the only thing that can eat it is the even more bad*ss mothaf*cking giraffe. -skyler

The most common large thorn tree in southern Africa is the Umbrella thorn tree (Acacia tortilis). An example of the leaves and thorns can be seen in this image, which also shows a pupal case protected by a 'cage' made from these thorns.
