When energy is created from wind turbines the energy is created from the atmospheres wind currents and no chemical processes are required. With no chemical processes(burning) involved the atmospheres chemical composition is not altered. Burning fossil fuel, simply put is the chemical process of changing a form of concentrated carbon into heat and carbon dioxide. Ancient life on the planet absorbed the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and time and natural processes sequestered the carbon from the ancient life into coal and oil reserves. When you burn the fossil fuel you are placing the carbon, that was once sequestered through the millions of years Earth has had life, back into the atmosphere thus changing the composition of the atmosphere. The results of putting the carbon back into the atmosphere is debated.

The advantage of nuclear energy is that it does not produce a waste material that is released into the atmosphere.
