Springfield was a trade name used by the J. Stevens Arms division of Savage Arms from about 1920 to 1948. Savage-made firearms marketed under the Springfield brand name were prevalent at least into the 1960's. The Chicopee Falls marking on this shotgun indicates manufacture between 1946 and 1959. I have most, if not all, the Savage catalogs and factory parts manuals from 1920 forward and am having difficulty finding a '929' model... can you verify that model number? sales@countrygunsmith.net
Stevens/Savage used the Springfield name from about 1915 to 1947 or 48. Parts are where ever you can find them. You might try to contact Savage Arms directly or Numrich Arms (http://www.e-gunparts.com) or your local gunsmith.

I suspect you are confusing a patent date marking with a model number. What are the other markings on the gun? sales@countrygunsmith.net OK. The best we can do is narrow it to the 1930's. No factory records exist. This was after the Savage takeover, and Stevens was still producing guns in the Chicopee Falls plant. They used the Springfield name as a value-brand.
