All US Military versions of the M1 Carbine were made between 1942 and 1945. After the war, a few civilian versions were made. The value of ANY firearm is based on EXACT make, model, and condition. There is significant collector interest in the military issue carbines, and some are more scarce than others. Typical values for a GI carbine in good condition is in the $600-$800 range. Civilian versions such as Universal and Plainfield are worth much less.
Are you referring to the M1 Garand, or the M1 carbine? A Garand can go anywhere from $500 to over $1000, all things dependent. An M1 carbine, generally, you'd be looking in the $400 - $700 range.
