Depends on if it is sidelock or boxlock. Generally, 1916-1948. sales@countrygunsmith.net

The Ithaca Gun Co manufactured the Lefever single barrel shotguns under the Lefever Arms Co. name after it acquired the company in 1916. This model was made between 1927 and 1942; the serial number indicates yours was made in 1928.

Ithaca Guns manufactured the Lefever Nitro Special after it acquired Lefever Arms in 1916. This model was made between 1921 and 1947; the serial number indicates yours was made in 1924.

To get a parts breakdown you would need to take the shotgun into a gun store. The store will be able to provide an estimate, or order new parts.

The reference material I have on the "Lefever Arms Co." lists the last s/n number issued for the "Lefever Shotgun" to be in the 73000 range. This accured after Lefever Arms Co. was purchased by the Ithaca Gun Co. in 1915. For the most part the Lefever product line died out ending with the 73000 range s/n listed above. Ithaca did continue to make shotguns marked "Lefever" off and on for many years after that, but I can find no info. on the s/n numbers issued, but I doubt very much if they ever reached the 300,000 range. Ithaca did make a low cost box lock gun they refered to as Lefever Nitro Special (which in no way can be considered a real Lefever) from 1922 to 1947 the last s/n being in the 360,000 range. Assuming that your gun is a Nitro Special and that Ithaca made very few doubles during the war years then your gun was probably made in the early 1940's.

LeFever Nitro Specials are not Manufactured By Dan Lefever. They are made by Ithaca Arms Co. Ithaca bought out The Lefever Arms Co. in 1916. Starting with serial #100000 in 1921 and ending in 1947 with #361199. These #'s encompass all bores. No manufacture during WWII. 12 gauges are not extremely rare. I bought one in good to very good condition Aug of 2002 for $400.00. A great book for Lefever history is "Uncle Dan Lefever, Master Gunmaker" by Robert Elliot. The last guy wanted that gun. Those can be found in abundance in mint condition for less than 350.00/that's not to say it's a bad shotgun, these were built for the working man and not real fancy. If you want a hunting double, there are few that compare "bang for buck".

This should address: http://www.gunshop.com/dgsnos3.htm should at least give an idea of the year your shotgun was made and then I suggest you look up your gun in the Blue Book of Gun Values and they will have a price estimate for grade and grading.

The original Lefever Arms Co. was located in Syracuse, NY.Lefever Arms began as an 1861 partnership between DM Lefever and James Ellis, and was named Lefever and Ellis. The Canandaigua, NY manufacturer primarily made muzzle-loading rifles, including the ones used by the New York State Sharpshooters during the Civil War.Ellis left the business in 1867, but Lefever continued to run the company until he moved to Auburn, NY in 1869, where he established himself as an independent gun maker. In 1871 or 1872, he joined with Francis Dangerfield to found F.S. Dangerfield and Co., in Auburn. Guns from this manufacture were stamped Dangerfield and Lefever, and were based on a breech-loading patent originally filed under Dangerfield's name. This later became known as the "Lefever Patent."DM Lefever moved to Syracuse, NY in 1874 and partnered with Lorenzo Barber to form L. Barber & Co., which manufactured breech-loading shotguns and rifles. These were stamped "Barber and Lefever."In 1876, John Nichols bought out Lorenzo Barber's share of the company, and the two men changed the name to Nichols & Lefever. While the partnership was short-lived, it was productive. Lefever invented a hammerless system with a side lever that cocked the firing pins, incorporated it into his breach-loading shotgun, won first prize for the best breech-loading shotgun in America at the St. Louis Bench show and Sportsman's Association in 1878.Nichols left the company in 1879, but Lefever and his new partner, JW Livingston continued to run the Syracuse factory under the name Nichols & Lefever until the building burned in 1883.Lefever lost controlling interest in the company due to the losses sustained in the fire. A. Ames Howlett took over as President of the rebuilt Syracuse factory, and renamed it The Lefever Arms Co. in 1884.DM Lefever left the company bearing his name in 1901, and begins manufacturing side-bolt shotguns under the name DM Lefever Arms Co. He relocated from Syracuse, NY to Defiance, Ohio in 1904.Meanwhile, the Lefever Arms Co. continued making guns under Lefever's name and patents. Lefever Arms was sold to the Ithaca Gun Company (of Ithaca, NY) in 1916. The Syracuse factory was abandoned after the sale, but Ithaca continued offering the Lefever brand until the original inventory was exhausted in 1921.Ithaca manufactured the double-barrel Lefever Nitro Special from 1921 until 1935, and the Lefever A Grade from 1934 until 1947.

1891 production. Look on the watertable (the flat part of the frame where the barrels sit - you have to open the gun to see it) for the grade designation. Will be a capital letter. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Ithaca gun co. which bought Lefever in 1916, but continued to use the name until 1921... so your gun would most likely be before that. I have the same model and am searching for the exact age myself. My serial on mine is 20066... well, good luck. Sincerely, Aaron Alden

not an answer but I also have a single barrel 12 ga #x27050 and am looking for value.

Janssen Fils & Co if it has Belgian proofmarks or Crescent Fire Arms Co if it does not.

Your LeFever 16 in good shape is worth about $300. In excellent shape about $450. It is hard to grade a shotgun without seeing it. Most of the ones I have were good to poor. Your Lefever Nitro Special was actually mfg'd by Ithaca Arms Co about late 1921 or 1922. Ithaca Arms purchased the assets of Lefever Arms in 1916 and started Mfg Nitro Special in 1921. A friend of mine recently purch'd a 12 GA in fair to good condtion for $150.

do you know when wolverine arms co produced this gun? do you know when wolverine arms co produced this gun?

I have a Continental Arms Co. 12 gauge shotgun that is probably about 70 years old that belonged to my grandfather. Any ideas of value and where do I go to sell it?

The stevens model 94B was made from 1926-1945.The total production of this shotgun was 934,000.

Ithaca Gun Co. manufactured the Lefever Arms Co. brand after it acquired the company in 1916. The Lefever Nitro Special was made between 1921 and 1947, except during the war years of 1943 through 1945. The serial number indicates your gun was manufactured in 1929.

I can say that your shotgun being marked with J Stevens Arms and Tool Co.indicates that it was made from 1886-1916.That marking was only used during these years of production.

It was manufactured by Crescent Fire Arms for the Fletcher Hardware Co.
