Are you sure it doesn't say 'Texas RANGER'? We've seen single-shot shotguns marked with a 1929 date and the words 'TEXAS RANGER' stamped in the side of the receiver. These were early H&R shotguns made for Montgomery Wards made before World War II. sales@countrygunsmith.net Actually, the "Texas Ranger" was a name used on the Model 1929 12 guage single barrelled shotgun produced by J. Stevens for Montgomery Ward's, I am certain it was not produced by H&R for Ward's.

I have a Texas Ranger single barrel 12 gauge with a 36" barrel that has no serial numbering. I believe it to have been manufactured by Harrington & Richardson as their model 1908 up until 1928 for Montgomery Ward. This does not mean that later guns weren't manufactured by Stevens. It was quite common for retailers to shop the best deal from manufacturers and manufacturers to drop less profitable lines.

There is also a Ranger that was marketed by Sears, Roebuck & Co. It came in a variety of types e.g. pump-action, semi-auto, etc.
