July 1st is Canada Day. It's a celebration of July 1st, 1867, when the "British North American Act" was signed. That act created the framework for Canada as we know it now. It pretty much was the start of our road away from British rule. Although we still think of the British Royals as our King and Queen, we are no longer influenced by England any more than any other country.
