How much should it cost to replace a broken tie rod on a Ford Windstar?
I just replace the outer tie rod ends on my 1999 Ford Windsar LX
and it cost me $33.00 per outer tie rod end at my local (Seattle
Wa) Schuck's Auto parts store. I did it my self and you will need
the following tools. 21 mm box wrench for nut on tie rod end / 18
mm socket for castle nut and torque wrench / gear puller to pop out
the end. Helpful tip: Loosen the tie rod nut 1/2 turn to allow you
to unscrew the tie rod end. I do not know what repair jobs "book"
for (semi-official time estimates repair shops use for pricing
labor), but cannot imagine it's more than 1 hour.
$40-50 for parts + 1 hour labor ($75?) = $100-130
