We are deluded into thinking that Greek democracy, which was direct democracy, is the same as our representative democracy.
In 1776, the Continental Congress appointed acommittee to create a plan for a central government.
Regents were often appointed to rule in the place of children, so that the children could have time to learn to administer the kingdom.
People vote for others to speak for them, and make decisions for the good of the colony. Today, we vote for people to makes laws for the good of the community, state, or nation.
The only similarities I can think of is that they both wanted what they believed to be best for the nation, and they both believed this could be achieved through a representative democracy.
