Your family dentist will usually be the one to suggest that a child needs to see an orthodontist. In general a child will be 12 or older before their teeth begin to need straightening.
I went to the orthodontist today. On the first day I went they did molds and x-rays. At the second visit they will tell you what they need to do to your teeth, such as, orthopedic care or getting braces. Then on your third visit they will give you braces, however this is only if you need braces.
Usually your primary dentist will recommend the orthodontist about the time that the child's bones are nearing the end of their growth. If you want a smooth transition to an orthodontist and a dentist who is specifically geared to young ones, find a pediadontist. They do both and help you understand and plan as your child grows.

Payment of child support does not automatically confer a right to visitation. I suggest that you file a motion in the appropriate court to compel visitation.SEE LINKS BELOW
it seems that you're trying to use negligence to sue your orthodontist. I'm no expert in law but based on the business law course that I've taken, i'd say you'd have to prove that your new orthodontist did not warn you of all risks/performed worse than average/deliberately w/held information to mislead you, etc. how poor a job your former orthodontist did has no bearing here.
You need to visit the local family court immediately and explain your situation. There should be an advocate who can help you file the appropriate documents.
You cannot modify the child support order on your own. You need to visit the court, apprise it of the change in custody and obtain a modification of the child support order if the court deems it appropriate.
