Two additional examinations are administered for those therapists desiring to become Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT). Most supervisory positions require that the therapist maintain certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Every state, except Alaska, requires that respiratory therapists be licensed. Respiratory therapists may find employment in hospital intensive care units, neonatal units, pulmonary and cardiac units, and in emergency rooms. The respiratory therapist may find himself working with asthma patients. Some of these specialty areas, such as intensive care units require the Registered Respiratory Therapist eligibility.
