In a solid state, particles vibrate because there's not a lot of space for them to move in. A solid has a definite shape and volume. In a liquid state, particles flow past one another because there is no definite shape but there's a definite volume. In a gas state, particles move really fast because there's no definite shape or volume.

What are the states of water How does it describe the arrangement of water molecule?

The 3 states of water are liquid, solid, and gas. The molecules bind closest together in the solid state and furthest apart in the gaseous state.

What do you called change from liquid from a solid?

The change in state would be known as melting. Just for your information: Solid to Liquid = Melting Liquid to Gaseous = Boiling Solid to Gaseous = Sublimation Gaseous to Liquid = Condensation Liquid to Solid = Freezing Gaseous to Solid = Deposition

How do you call a change from liquid to solid?

The change in state would be known as freezing. Just for your information: Solid to Liquid = Melting Liquid to Gaseous = Boiling Solid to Gaseous = Sublimation Gaseous to Liquid = Condensation Liquid to Solid = Freezing Gaseous to Solid = Deposition

When a substance changes from one state to another do the chemical properties change?

From solid to liquid, from liquid to gaseous, from gaseous to liquid, from liquid to solid, and in sublimation from solid to gaseous or the reverse, chemical properties do not change.

What do you call the change in a state of matter from a solid to a liquid?

The change in state would be known as melting. Just for your information: Solid to Liquid = Melting Liquid to Gaseous = Boiling Solid to Gaseous = Sublimation Gaseous to Liquid = Condensation Liquid to Solid = Freezing Gaseous to Solid = Deposition

How are water molecules packed when they are in a gaseous state?

The molecules move freely and rapidly in all directions.

How does arrangement of atoms in most solids differ from the arrangement of atoms in a liquid?

The arrangement of atoms in solids are different from those in liquids in that they are unable to move from their location in the solid, where they can move in the liquid. A solid's atoms are vibrating very rapidly, but the molecules are all locked into place, whereas in a liquid the molecules are free to move around. Also in general the atoms of a solid are closer together than those of a liquid with the exception of water, whose solid form is less dense.

Compare the three states of water in terms of the speed and arrangement of their molecules?

When water is in its gaseous form, the molecules are spread far apart and moving very quickly. In the liquid form, molecules are spread evenly and move at an average speed. In its solid form, the molecules are very close together and move very slowly.

What is the common names for solid liquid and gaseous states of water?

solid = ice liquid = water gaseous = water vapour

What do you call the change from a solid to a liquid?

The change in state would be known as melting. Just for your information: Solid to Liquid = Melting Liquid to Gaseous = Boiling Gaseous to Liquid = Condensation Liquid to Solid = Freezing

What is wetting and drying in science?

Wetting: adding a liquid to a solid or gaseous material Drying: deleting a liquid from a solid or gaseous material

Why is the density of a substance in a gaseous state much less than its density in liquid or solid state?

Because the atoms or molecules in a gas are several orders of magnitude further apart than they are in a liquid or solid.
