Unfortunately, there are few opportunities as an attorney assistant without a law degree. The position is highly sought, so having a degree along with some legal experience is practically a must. However, it does not hurt to give it a try.
With very few exceptions, one must earn a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree to become an attorney.

Tax attorneys often get an Masters in the Letters of Law specializing in tax. That is after completing the JD degree.
You can become an attorney in any state. You will have to pass their bar exam.
