The average airspeed of commercial jets is 500 knots.
This is roughly 575 mph or 925 kph.
im not saying your wrong... i may be but when i looked it up i got this answer
A commercial airplane travels at a velocity of about 600 miles per hours. ... hence the average speed for the entire voyage is 444 miles per hour
so im not sure whats right =P
As an ex airline avionics tec, the above info is correct.
however if we consider Einsteins theory of relativity and take the position of an observer, we find that the speed and direction of the air in which the aircraft is flying affects the ground speed. we must add or subtract this "wind speed". in addition "indicated" airspeed is not necessarily true ground speed but speed through the air and is a function of air density. Since air density decreases with altitude and temperature, the "indicated airspeed" of an aircraft can be substantially different than ground speed.
IE prevailing westerly jet stream of 50kts (for example) adds 50kts ground speed to the flight if traveling east. traveling west, we subtract from the ground speed.
as a final thought. a typical travel time from Chicago to New York involves getting to the airport, checking in, boarding, taxi time, flight time, approach and landing, taxi again, disembarking, connecting to ground transportation. If we consider all aspects of this "communication" process we find 5.25 hrs not unreasonable from point a to point b
dividing this into the miles traveled we find a speed of about 133 mph as the Real speed.
The top speed of an airplane in the air can vary depending on the type of aircraft, but commercial jets typically have cruising speeds between 500 and 600 miles per hour. Some military fighter jets can reach speeds of over 1,500 miles per hour.
Air force jets can range in speed from sub-sonic ( below the speed of sound ) to speeds of mach 2 ( twice the speed of sound ) some can even reach mach 3 the average military fighter jets average speeds of mach 1.2
Turbo jets are primarily used in aviation for propulsion in aircraft, especially in military jets and some commercial airliners. They operate by drawing in air, compressing it, mixing it with fuel, and igniting the mixture to produce thrust. These engines are known for their high speed and efficiency at high altitudes, making them suitable for supersonic flight. Additionally, turbo jets can be found in some missiles and experimental aircraft.

On average, there are approximately 9,000 to 14,000 passenger jets in the air at any given moment globally. Over a 24-hour period, this can translate to around 100,000 to 150,000 commercial flights. The exact number can vary based on factors like time of year, day of the week, and global events affecting air travel.
About 750 mph is the speed of a subsonic air plane. Commercial jets average about 600 mph at cruising altitude. The fastest planes in regular use are military fighters, which can make speeds of 1100 MPH (F18) and higher, up to 2,115 MPH (MiG-25). Specialty aircraft like the X-15 and X-43 Scramjet made speeds of 4,000 MPH and 7,000 MPH.
The average speed of a hot air balloon is typically between 5-10 mph. However, the speed can vary depending on the wind conditions and altitude.
This question is in the wrong area. But usually commercial jets, private planes, all types of aircraft.
The temperature of a gas is related to the average kinetic energy of its molecules, which is directly proportional to their speed. Therefore, temperature indirectly measures the average speed of air molecules.
The experiment suggests that the average speed of hydrogen molecules is higher than the average speed of molecules in the air. This is because hydrogen molecules are lighter and have a higher root mean square speed due to their lower mass.
At cruise speed, commercial jets typically fly at altitudes ranging from 30,000 to 40,000 feet (about 9,000 to 12,000 meters). This altitude allows for optimal fuel efficiency, reduced air resistance, and avoidance of weather disturbances. The specific altitude can vary based on factors such as flight route, aircraft type, and air traffic control regulations.
Commercial jets do. Military jets normally land on military airports/airfields. An example for such an airport is Edwards Air Force Base.
