An average is possible, but obtaining the real average is highly improbable. You could try a sample average. But even that would only be the average for your particular location for the soft drink bottlers in your area.
Here's the problem: this number is going to shift radically based on far too many variables to list. There are considerations for environmental conditions, time of year, relative humidity and temperature, exposure to microorganisms at storage facilities, location, pest infestations, bottling plant cleanliness, variables related to transport, secondary storage, retail storage, point of sale, transport from point of sale, consumer storage, etc.
Narrow the parameters of your focus, and start from that point. for instance, What is the average level of bacteria found on the lids of soft drink cans purchased in the northeast corner of Munice, Indiana between the first and last weeks of December 2009.
