Simply looking at the expressions that derive weight average and number average one can see that the weight average is a second order expression where number average is a first order. To put it more simply: weight averaged molecular weight emphasizes heavy molecules more than light ones; number averaged molecular weight says a molecule is a molecule and counts them both equally.

Poly suggests many. A polymer may not be determined exactly. Just a general recurring structure. So, Gmm cannot be calculated

What is Polydispersity?

In organic chemistry, the polydispersity index (PDI), is a measure of the distribution of molecular mass in a given polymer sample. The PDI calculated is the weight average molecular weight divided by the number average molecular weight. It indicates the distribution of individual molecular masses in a batch of polymers. The PDI has a value always greater than 1, but as the polymer chains approach uniform chain length, the PDI approaches unity (1). For some natural polymers PDI is almost taken as unity. The PDI from polymerization is often denoted as: \ PDI = M_w/M_n

What is a molecule of low molecular weight capable of reacting with identical or different molecules of low molecular weight to form a polymer?

This is a catalyst.

What is the molecular weight of Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride resin?

Molecular weight of a polymer depends rather on it's degree of polymerization (chain length) than on it's composition. Typical polymer molecular weights are in the range of 1000 to 1000 000 and beyond.

What is the molecular weight of PCTFE or polychlorotrifluoroethylene?

The molar mass is variable depending on the number of monomers in the polymer.

Which best explains the difference between a monomer and a polymer?

A monomer is a single structure and has low moleculer weight, while a polymer consists of several monomers and appears like plastic such as shellac and varnish.A polymer has higher molecular weight. Polymers don't always look like plastic--wood and cotton are both polymers. Rubber is also a polymer.

Can AMPS polymer form latex?

Yes, AMPS polymer can form latex when it is dispersed in water and stabilized by surfactants. Latex is a colloidal dispersion of polymer particles in water, and AMPS can be used to create latex coatings with various properties for applications such as paints, adhesives, and coatings.

What is Meyer's oscillating disc method?

Meyer's oscillating disc method is a technique used to determine the molecular weight of a polymer by measuring the change in weight of a solution containing the polymer as it oscillates at a specific frequency. This method allows for accurate determination of molecular weight and can be used to study the size and structure of macromolecules.

Why the tendency of a polymer to crystallize decreases with increasing molecular weight?

The tendency of a polymer to crystallize decreases with increasing molecular weight because as the chains become longer it is more difficult for all regions along adjacent chains to align so as to produce the ordered atomic array.

How do you calculate number average molecular weight given molecular weight range and fraction?

Molecular weight is just an older term for molar mass. They are the same.
