In large law firms, a lot! Seriously, it varies from city to city and firm to firm. A 2006 study based on 2004 information showed the minimum billable hour requirements ranged from 1,400 to 2,400. Most firms were at 1,800 to 1,900 but firms in large cities like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles had averages in the 1,950 to 2,000 range.

Billable hours are only those hours that can actually be billed to clients. Training time, department meetings, and other administrative matters also take time and do not count toward billable hours.

Is 87 average good for a school kid?

Depends on how many were possible. It is a B or B+. That is the grade and not the average. A average is reached by adding up all the grade and then dividing by the number possible, the number of 87 would be the number AFTER the number missed was subtracted from the total possible.
