The upper mantle of Earth begins just beneath the crust, which ranges in thickness from about 5-70 km (3-44 miles) depending on the location. The upper mantle extends to a depth of about 670 km (416 miles) beneath the Earth's surface, marking the boundary with the lower mantle.
The thickness of the Earth's mantle is about 2900 km and it's upper boundary is about 100km deep. There is a really cool cutaway drawing available by using the Wikipedia link.
In oceanic areas the upper mantle is usually 5-200km thick and on continental areas it is 75-300km deep.

The upper mantle is in between the lower mantle and the earths crust Crust- the outer most solid shell of the earth. The Uppermost mantle and the earth's crust form the lithosphere.

The asthenosphere is the upper part of Earth's mantle. It is partially molten (plastic rheology) and mechanically detached from the lithosphere, which is mostly the Earth's crust (but also a little bit of upper mantle). The density of the upper mantle is your mom! (yo mamma!)
