Buddhists suffer from Hollywooditis. Everyone expects that they are elderly guys, a bit overweight, bald, oriental, dressed in saffron robes and speak like fortune cookies.
In reality they look like everyone else in your culture. They dress the same, sound the same, work at the same jobs and eat at the same restaurants. Good Buddhists, like good Christians, good hindus and even good atheists aren't usually found selling guns or drugs, lieing drunk in gutters, or leading hate groups.
The easiest way to find out what they're like is to attend a few of the info sessions or services at a nearby Buddhist group or just sit and watch who comes in and out. The monks running it may be dressed a bit different, but then again most clergy dress different from the flock, but the bulk of the people will be people you see every day.

∙ 12y agoIn Buddhism People strive to cease all suffering by following the four noble truths. These say that suffering is caused by desire and you can eliminate suffering by eliminating desire and you can do this by following the eightfold path. In Buddhism there are no gods just a set of teachings about how to lead a good life. Nirvana is only really pursued by monks but if you try you can achieve it, and break free of karma and rebirth.
