that man was a product of evolution is a scientific belief, where god made man is a religious belief -- commonly associated with this question.
Believe is a verb, it indicates that a person has come to some kind of conclusion or has accepted something as being factual or true, as in, I believe that you are a good person. Belief is a noun, it is a specific assertion, conclusion, or datum of whatever sort, that someone has accepted as true. It is my belief that you are a good person. Belief in evil spirits is superstitious. Hence, I do not believe in evil spirits.
Asceticism is the belief in living a very austere and self-denying life. This is sometimes referred to as monasticism depending on the religious preferences.
Evolutionary theory is a scientific theory, and stands separate from any religious belief, just like one does not have to have or lack any particular religious belief in order to accept gravity or general relativity.

It has been used to justify social inequalities and discrimination, as well as to promote laissez-faire economic policies.

good and evil.
Survival of the fittest is the belief that in the competition between two beings, the one most suited by nature to its task and/or environment should be the one who lives. This is in contrast to many religious beliefs that those who choose a morally superior path should survive.Example: In survival of the moral, a person who does not steal food should live, because he chose the moral path. In survival of the fittest, the person who does not steal food should die because he chose not to eat.
socialism
Was the belief that competition was part of human evolution and poverty existed as part of the natural order of things and that the small percentage of the wealthy at the top were the more evolved class of people. The belief applied terms from Darwin's An Origin of Species to social aspects of humans. Like, survival of the fittest and natural selection. It was a belief among many wealthy American businessmen: Sociologist Herbert Spencer; William Graham Sumner who wrote What Social Classes Owe to Each Other was considered the most influential Social Darwinist, he argued that social programs to designed to aid poor people worked against nature; Andrew Carnegie applied Darwin's survival of the fittest to society by believing that a free-market economy and noninterference of the government allowed the fittest to evolve. These people believed they were rich because they were evolutionally superior human beings.
