teak wood

This varies. Southern yellow pine is what the market has settled on in a lot of the US due to cost. Any wood can be used, though some are much weaker and an engineer should be consulted if the system is too unusual. For exposed-frame structures such as timberframes, extra care is typically taken to make sure that the wood chosen is aesthetically pleasing.

It really depends on what you are building and the stresses it will experience. For instance, pine is a very strong and flexible wood, but has very little crush strength. Oak and ash are very similar in cell structure, but are very dense and may not take nails well, both are rot resistant, but are lunch for insects. Walnut and cherry are strong and rigid, but expensive. Maple is similar to walnut and cherry (substitutes for either in fact for furniture), but less expensive, but not very resistant to rot in an outdoor use. Cedar and redwood are similar to pine, slightly more expensive, but very resistant to rot and insect infestation if used outdoors.

There are also several different types of ply or manufactured board that are quite good for a number of projects, especially for decking and siding.

There is a large selection of timber to choose from when building a tree house. In my experience I have found that pressure treated woods serve best as the base for a tree house. While you can build the entire tree house out of pressure treated would I have found it to be more affordable to recycle used Fencing with close slats for walls and railings by sanding it down and sealing it with a water sealer.
