The best commonly available ice melter by far is Calcium Chloride, works to -20F. Followed by by Magnesium Chloride, works to +5F. Then Sodium Chloride (salt), works to +20F. Calcium Chloride does not affect concrete nor damage vegetation but it can leave surfaces slippery.
