Traditional Caribbean ratio for Rum cocktail is: 1 of sour 2 of sweet 3 of strong and 4 of weak. Traditional Rum Punch, for example, would be mixed with 1 part (13oz) lime juice, 2 parts (26oz) simple syrup, 3 parts (38oz) Rum and 4 parts (51oz) water, juice, etc. Totalling 128 oz, or 1 gallon. This renders a cocktail that has some punch (pardon the pun) but without being too deadly. From this ratio, you can strengthen or weaken to your liking.
