Butter cream is the best. (Powder sugar with butter and melted non sweetened chocolate)

A very simple one is to add some milk or water, a little soft butter if you wish, and a dash of vanilla extract to a couple of cups of powdered sugar. Beat it until you get the consistancy you like. You can add cocoa powder to it as well, or flavor it with orange or lemon juice instead. You can make it thinner by adding more liquid, and thicker by adding more sugar.

Yellow cake is the most versatile. The favorite frosting for yellow cake is chocolate or fudge. However, yellow cake tastes great with mocha, fruit flavored, butterscotch, maple walnut frostings, syrups, and fruit compote toppings. It even serves as a base for strawberry shortcake.
I would have to say fudge or vanilla.
I think the best tasting frosting is chocolate buttercream (that actually has butter in it)
runners up, buttercream (that actually has butter), and rainbow chip from Betty Crocker

Yes. Cake frosting and cupcake frosting are the exact same thing. They are generally made from a butter-cream using butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. There are thousands of frosting recipes and virtually all of them can be used interchangeably for both cakes and cupcakes.
