A complete fertilizer that is low in phosphorus is what is best for Ficus retusa.

Specifically, Cuban laurel trees (Ficus retusa, F. microcarpa) do not need fertilizer treatments if they are located in grass, ground cover, lawn or turf that receives regular fertilizer treatments. Otherwise, they favor fertilizers that are weighted 3:1:2 in terms of nutrient ingredient percentages of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. For example, a complete 18-6-12 fertilizer works.
