What is the best free anti virus software?

There are many free alternative anti virus softwares available. With my experience and after reading many reviews I feel the choice narrowed down to

1. Avast Home edition - Needs free registration every year. Free. In my opinion, the best.

2. AVG free Edition - Good.

3. Anti vir antivirus.

These three are the best out there. They all have paid counter parts if you want. Among them chose the one that pleases your eye and that works best for you system.

Also, there is a behavior based virus detection software known as 'Threatfire'. Use it in conjunction with any of the above 3 antivirus.

The best free anti virus soft ware is AVG 7 free antivirus. Also for other services:

I used to depend on free anti virus software, but really if you want good protection you must pay for it, I never found a good free anti virus software - I hope someone else is able to guide you to one that you can really depend on.Avast www.avast.com

Best Anti virus Program

• I used Avast for a while, but it did not work well for me. I am now using AVG Free and it appears to be working great.

• Use Adaware from Lavasoft to remove some spy and trojans , also use SpyHunter from Enigma www.enigmasoftwaregroup.com, although this software is not free , but this is good one to clean some virus and spy-wares that can not be detected easily.

• if you want to remove cookies, email history, temporary files and some folders that your browser unable to clean it, or, swith off some start up programs to boost your PC speed, then I recommend you to use :"CC Cleaner" the website is www.ccleaner.com and it is free software.
• another good software to remove spyware and virus is CounterSpy

There is no best free antivirus. Each AV program has it's own good and bad traits and each one can or cannot detect viruses that another AV program can.

I agree that there is no "best" free antivirus, however, I'd definitely recommend AVG or Malwarebytes for windows machines. For an Ubuntu machine, I'd recommend ClamAV.
