Well there are several kinds of materials to choose from, but if you are getting the piercing done by a professional body piercer they will have a good selection of starter jewellery to choose from (keeping the cost down but yet still providing the best material possible within a budget). Beware of junk jewellery vendors selling what they call quality jewellery, this stuff looks cheap and trust me it is cheap and usually of substandard materials. So as for choices, here's the metals you want to look for: # Grade 23 Titanium (this is medical grade titanium and can be in various colors). # 316 LVM Surgical Stainless Steel ( this is medical grade stainless steel ). # Implantation Grade 2 Surgical Stainless Steel (this is medical grade stainless steel ). # Niobium ( this is a bio-compatible elemental metal and can come in various colors ). # BioPlast ( this is a bio-compatible plastic used in medical devices ). # PTFE ( this is Surgical grade Teflon, flexible and bio-compatible for all piercings). # 14kt ~ 18kt Body Jewellery Gold ( rare and expensive the fillers are bio-compatible therefore this form or gold is expensive and not a viable option) Ultimately your professional body piercer will assist you in selecting one of these materials for your piercing and be able to assist you with any post piercing problems you may or may not experience .

What piercing hurts the worst?

I think that everyone is different when it comes to pain in piercings. I have 4 in one ear, 3 in another, my nose, my tongue, and my navel all pierced. For me getting the actual piercing done on my navel hurt the most, however my tongue hurt the most AFTER I had it pierced due to swelling. But I hear that the most painful are nipples or any kind of genitalia.

What kind of belly bar is best to use?

Considering I have been in the business for over 15 years I have yet to run across a "Belly Bar" so I will hazard a guess that you mean a navel banana bell or a bent barbell or a navel gem. Having never seen anyone pierce a "belly" I am again guessing you mean a Navel piercing, "which is the upper tissue fold as one is standing directly above the umbilical cord "knot**" in the navel area (**commonly referred to as the belly button). The jewellery of choice can be 316 LVM Surgical stainless steel, Implant grade composition "D"steel, Titanium grade 23 or higher, PTFE, Bioplast or Niobium. These can be bent or curved barbells, rings captive bead or fixed bead, circular barbells. Selection of the best style of jewellery is generally done in concert with the body piercer and the client at the time of the piercing.

If you are an avid swimmer will having your navel pierced be a problem?

everytime you have your belly button pierced, they say not to go swimming at least after 4 weeks but if you have to, then you must clean it more regularly with a special cream. id suggest going to your local piercing shop and ask them to tell you if it would be ok, or how much time you would have to have off swimming. you could also then ask them what kind of special soap to wash it with if youre going to be swimming!
