You need to find out what kind it is to find out what kind of environment and food it needs. If you purchased it at a pet store, an employee there should have the information you need or at least be able to get you a book with instructions for care. If it is a turtle you found outside I strongly recommend that you return it to the safest place you can that is still nearby where you found it. If this is not possible, or it is not safe for the turtle where you found it, or perhaps you inherited it from a friend or something like that... the pet store is still your best bet. Take the turtle in so they can more accurately identify it.
