First, I should mention bad methods. Looking at the Sun directly can harm your eyes. Watching it through a telescope or binoculars is even worse, since the concentrated light and heat will damage your eyes faster than you can shut them. (With a telescope, or even with a simple magnifying glass, you can easily start a fire if you use it to concentrate sunlight.) Dark filters in front of a telescope may not offer sufficient protection. So, you basically have two methods:

1. Look at the Sun without a telescope, through a dark filter, such as dark glasses specifically sold as Sun-watching glasses. I am not quite sure whether welding glasses offer sufficient protection in this case.

2. With a telescope, project the Sun's image onto a sheet of white paper, or a similar white surface. Watch this projected image.
